Coffee Talk // psalm 16 on being better

Coffee-Talk-with-Jayne

Good morning! Do you have your coffee and your Bible handy? It's the second post for my Coffee Talks...

I have just really been gaining a lot through writing every day. The first ten days of writing helped me sort out so much about myself because it pushed me to make my quiet time a priority. I am so excited about the prospects of my business revamp. I have nothing tangible right now but I have ideas that I am slowly working into realities. (I will show you some of them in a couple of posts coming up.) They all just feel so ordained so to speak. Just God things.

I am excited to use my designing to bring Him glory and just the mere fact that working on my business has made me a more attentive mom, a more serving wife and more conscientious about other things in general. I read Psalm 16 this morning and I just really thought it was beautiful. I gain so much from going through the Psalms; so often I forget to praise His name and focus more on His holiness and glory than on my ick and patheticness.

Psalm 16

A miktam[a] of David.

Keep me safe, my God,
    for in you I take refuge.

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    apart from you I have no good thing.”
I say of the holy people who are in the land,
    “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more.
    I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods
    or take up their names on my lips.

Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup;
    you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;
    surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me;
    even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
    With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
    my body also will rest secure,
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead,
    nor will you let your faithful[b] one see decay.
11 You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Isn't the promise of this just beautiful? That last verse, "You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." When we keep focused on him the path becomes so much more clear and it is so much easier to be a patient mom, a serving wife, and conscientious business mama. I am learning that firsthand here. Pray with me that it will stick so deep that my bones will ache if I turn from that.

I am also enjoying thoroughly the study that I mentioned in our last talk, Salvaging my Identity. It is so applicable, I think every young woman should go through it, particularly those eighth grade into high school. It is so important to go back and re-examine our motives, our self-worth and identities and this study has done such a good clear job of leading through that. I cannot believe what I have gained from it next to being able to pour in to my dear friend. If you have young girls, lead a small group of girls or whatever, teach young adult ladies Sunday school, check it out; it is just so well done.

Salvaging my Identity

From this study I have been able to weed through some ick that has followed me since high school. I won't get into that today but perhaps another coffee talk post later on. But, since working through that I have re-found my mission. Yes, I am a wife and mom first and foremost and I am not belittling that. One of my biggest missions is to lead my children to Christ and to reflect him through my home (see yesterday's post) but secondly it is to be an encourager. I love pouring into other young ladies and young moms. Part of my discovery for my business is that I want to do a monthly encouragement bundle. I am going to share about this more in depth in a couple of days but just to keep you intrigued I figured I would drop it in.
