Workin Mom at Home // scheduling with toddlers

Hey there! Good afternoon. Welcome to the second Working Mom at Home post! If you missed the first post, head over here.

Today I am going to share a little about scheduling work around toddlers. I am in NO way skilled at this. I am still learning and trying to work out kinks in my own schedule. I did a little research on Pinterest this morning and found a few really great posts with good suggestions and tips. Here are a few of my favorite ones:

Most of these tips and suggestions are good no matter if you have children or pets at home or you are on your own. The main thing that I gained from all of these posts is ROUTINE. ROUTINE - ROUTINE - ROUTINE! The biggest kink that I need to work out. I feel like my routine is always changing and I just haven't pursued even trying. Between new babies coming, a husband whose schedule is always changing and sleeping being off with middle of the night potty runs or whatever I get up for, I just haven't felt any consistency.

I am learning though. I am trying to at least do the same thing every day in the same order even if my timing is off. I am also working really hard at trying to work only when the boys are asleep or are having quiet time. It usually ends up only being two hours but it's ether that or I end up ignoring my children from 10 to 4 which I DO NOT LIKE to do but I have such a tendency to get so wrapped up in what I'm doing.

Another really good resource that I have at my finger tips but have not fully utilized is this wonderful book:

It was such an easy book to go through and I really benefited when I implemented what she had to say and suggestions she has but unfortunately I strayed quickly. I have yet to find a system that works well for me. But, one step at a time. So far I have been impressed that I have been able to do school a few times a week with my four year old, cook dinner every night this week, get the laundry all done and folded (still have to put away) the dishes piled in my sink are a quarter of what they have been, I got the kitchen rearranged, the living room resettled, the boy's room rearranged and have managed to still post every day. Whew. This week has gone well. Mostly.

Not going to lie, it is HARD to find good balance for me between kids and my desire to spend all the hours on the computer as well as keeping a clean tidy house. I have for sure felt the benefits of it though. I also was able to make quiet time to do devotions ever day this week. Even if it was just reading a chapter from the Bible, I got to it. This has all been huge progress for me and I know that it will continue to improve. My schedule and routine will continue to be worked out even with transitions and adjustments but I am making it more of a priority.

What things have worked for you in your daily scheduling and routine? Do you have kiddos you need to work around or pets that demand as much attention as children do, how do you manage to get your work done and still make them a high priority in your daily living?

As always, thanks so much for reading!!!
