The Sacred Name

Let them praise the name of the Lordfor his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven. Psalm 148:13

"To hallow a thing is to make it holy or to set it apart to be exalted as being worthy of absolute devotion. To hallow the name of God is to regard Him with complete devotion and loving admiration. God's name is of the utmost importance (Neh 9:5); therefore we ought reserve it a position of grave significance in our minds and hearts. We should never take His name lightly (Exd 20:7; Lev 22:32), but always rejoice in it and think deeply upon its true meaning." -Blue Letter Bible

Are we really so lost as a country that we have completely forgotten that our Heavenly Father's name is HOLY and SACRED and to be ESTEEMED higher than any other name?

How is it that we can just throw it around without a thought or conviction about using it in the wrong way?

My heart has been burdened for some time now about this topic and I am just broken at the casual way that our Holy God's name is slung through the mud and used in ways other than in prayer or praise to Him.

Although Jesus came to abolish the law, He did not come to take holiness away from the Heavenly Father. He did not CHANGE the rules that he gave Moses to live by. He made a way freely to open the channels of communication directly with our most Holy God and that is a PRIVILEGE. 1 Timothy 1:8-11

As Christians, I think one of the most offensive things to God's ears is to hear the phrase, "oh god" or "oh my god" said over and over again by those that call him their Father.

We are called to stand apart from the world and by losing the reverence of his name we muck the line of world - believer even more than it already is.  Galatians 2:20

By using the name of God in any way other than prayer and praise, it shows the outside world that our God is not to be revered any more than Captain America or Batman.

Is this what we want to show the world - that our God's name doesn't deserve the most holy courtesy of being used in the correct place?

God's name is Holy. Revered. Precious. Most powerful among all other names.

Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name." Matthew 6:9-13

  1. So good!! We do so need a revival of honoring God's glory in our own hearts. The Word says, "out of the overeflow of the heart the mouth speaks" As believers, our very essence should be humble gratitude resulting in a holy reverence for Gods name and His glory"

We who bear His name ought to realize we are reflections of our holy God. Praying with you that the Holy Spirit will help us check our heart attitude by looking at how our mouth speaks. And return to our first love.

May I revere your Name, O Lord God Almighty!!
